Alors que la ville-province de Kinshasa confie la gestion de ses déchets à la société Averda, plusieurs expériences africaines, notamment au Gabon et en République du Congo, soulèvent de sérieuses inquiétudes. Enquête.
AVERDA : UN GÉANT DU DÉCHET AU BILAN AFRICAIN CONTESTÉ
Présente dans plus de 15 pays, la société Averda, spécialisée dans la collecte et le traitement des déchets, se présente comme un leader mondial de l’assainissement. Pourtant, son passage en Afrique centrale est loin de faire l’unanimité, comme l’ont relevé plusieurs médias et organisations de la société civile.

Au Gabon, Averda (à travers ses filiales) a été associée à des contrats de gestion des déchets dans plusieurs localités, notamment à Libreville.

Signer un contrat avec une entreprise dont les précédents régionaux sont critiqués, sans audit public indépendant, expose la capitale congolaise à :
- un échec opérationnel coûteux,
- une aggravation de l’insalubrité,
- une colère sociale inévitable.
L’URGENCE D’UN CHOIX RESPONSABLE
Les expériences du Gabon et de Brazzaville, telles que rapportées par plusieurs médias crédibles, montrent qu’Averda n’a pas su convaincre en Afrique centrale.
